    Minimal Risk requires professional, physically & medically fit due to the need to conduct regular foot patrols inside and outside the embassy, flexible and adaptable individuals to join an already established team in various British Embassies at 5 locations around the world.  The role requires current in date Developed Vetting security clearance, or the ability to hold it; through a 6-12 month application process; following a successful application and interview process with Minimal Risk.  Please see link below regarding clearances.

    Applicants may apply for a security clearance provided they have been resident in the UK prior to submitting their application for at least 5 years out of the last 10 years, for DV clearance.  At least one year of this must have been a consecutive 12 month period.

    This role is office based in non hostile embassies, consulates & a UK Delegation; therefore you need good 'Microsoft Office' IT and customer service skills.

    Officers usually stay in one location for two years then rotate but this depends on the availability of visas.

    This is a full time employed permanent position(s). 

    The generic responsibilities are to provide a 24/7 service working a shift pattern rotation whilst in country, encompassing but not limited to:

    • Preventing unauthorised access to certain restricted parts of the building at each location.
      • Protecting the property and assets.
    • Preventing unauthorised removal of official and/or personal property from Post.
    • Responding to emergencies out of hours; e.g. fire, flood or intrusion into any building and compounds and request as necessary.
    • Detecting and reporting sightings of suspicious activities, objects or persons out of hours.
    • Acting responsibly towards official personnel and visitors (both authorised and unauthorised) with due regard to their human rights,        local and international law.
    • Maintaining and utilising the access control systems applicable to the post concerned.
    • Adhering to Post Security Regulations.
    • Ensuring that when required the correct areas/buildings are locked and secured.
    • Enforcing entry/exit control to buildings by checking and confirming as necessary personal identification and only permitting access to    personnel (after searching and removal of prohibited items) with the necessary authorisation to visits outside of normal working  hours.
    • Conducting regular patrols and searches around designated areas of Post as agreed with the 
    Regional Security Advisor (RSA).
    • Undertaking reasonable and appropriate additional measures required by the (
    RSA).
    • Monitoring alarm systems, CCTV and any other security systems and investigate and report suspicious activities, objects or persons      out of normal office hours.
    • Supervising non-vetted external contractors' staff when necessary (e.g. cleaners, painters, maintenance workers), in the designated      areas of the buildings, out of hours.
    • Issuing keys and passes to authorised personnel and maintaining applicable logs.
    • You will also support other team colleagues and the Mission security team on standby whilst at Post to provide additional security and     
    back up as required.


    Terms and Conditions:

    Flights will be provided at Economy class to UK & overseas destinations of choice (within a fixed budget) while on leave.

     Accommodation will be provided close to the Embassy. 

    Annual Salary of £36,791 paid monthly plus a £3,000 bonus for satisfactorily completing the first year and each subsequent year thereafter.

    The above includes In Country Allowance (ICA) which is £428.66 paid each full calendar month in country (not on leave).

    Due to time outside of the UK, you will be entitled to an NT (No income tax) tax code.  Also, after 12 months; you will not be subject to National Insurance deductions.

    £450 yearly wellness allowance, towards in country gym membership, yoga, pilates etc. aimed at supporting personnel physical and mental wellbeing.

    Rotations are 12 weeks on and 3 weeks off, with 1-3 travel days either side of the 3 weeks leave period.

    Three weeks off plus travel days are paid, as part of your annual salary. 

    Overtime is periodically available while in country.

    Insurance for travel to and from each location, in country personal accident & illness cover while at work and emergency treatment. 

    Death in Service Benefit x1 Annual Salary.

  • Qualifications

  •  Skills/Behaviours:
    • The right person will be reliable, responsible, flexible and be able to demonstrate effective judgement.
    • Must have very good interpersonal/customer skills.
    • You must be able to ascend and descend several flights of stairs at each location throughout the shift, as part of regular foot patrols, without assistance and within a reasonable operational timescale.  During fire alarms or emergency evacuations, lifts cannot be used, and all movement must be via the stairs; the ability to do so safely and promptly is an essential, safety-critical requirement of the role.
    • Must be able to work as part of a small team in an office environment.
    • Excellent communication and writing skills.
    • Competent/experienced in IT (to include Microsoft Office applications) and electronic systems (task specific training is provided).
    • Developed Vetting (DV) currently held or be able to hold this level of UK Government Clearance - Essential.
    • In-date SIA Licence (DS or CP) or be able to undertake the necessary training to get this licence.
    • In-date First Aid Qualification or be able to undertake at least Emergency First Aid at Work to include Defibrillator Training.
    • Ability to work in an office environment - essential.
    • Good IT skills.
    • Have previous experience working in a British Embassy - desirable.
    • Experience working in an Operations Room or Watchkeeper Duties - desireable.
